COMMUNITY CARE PROGRAM

The Community Care program attempts to respond to the 24,000 people in the Capital Region who live below the poverty line – 9,000 of these are children.

Unfortunately many people living in our Capital Region are oblivious to the extent of those ‘doing it tough’ right here in our community. We at Capital Healing Rooms are reaching out to those who are in desperate need or lonely through our food hampers.

FOOD HAMPERS

A key component of the Community Care program is the distribution of food parcels from our Fyshwick office. These care packages provide tangible assistance by way of hampers filled to overflowing with the necessary items needed for everyday living. Non-perishable food items are included in each hamper, along with fresh fruit and vegetables allowing our recipients to prepare a quick and healthy meal for themselves and their family. Many of those who come in for assistance, usually only need help for a short period of time.

Fresh fruit and vegetables come to us from OzHarvest which is a food rescue organisation in our region. Non perishable items are purchased locally from donations coming into our organisation.  Since opening our doors in 2004, we have assisted thousands of families and individuals with food hampers – making a difference in their lives. During the last calendar year we issued over 7,500 kgs of food to those in need in the Canbera region including non perishable items, fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and bread.  This is all possible due to the generosity of our donors and partners.  You can make a difference to someone's life by donating to our community care program.
